About
Los Gigantes is a town on the west coast of the Canary Island Tenerife. The town belongs to the municipality of Santiago del Teide. Puerto de Santiago is located south of this town. Los Gigantes is mainly known for the impressive gigantic rock formations (Acantilados de Los Gigantes) that rise above the sea, which are located north of Los Gigantes. The town also owes its name to these giants (Los Gigantes = the giants). In some places these rock formations rise up to 800 meters above sea level. The town itself has a large, rectangular enclosed marina, walled by a concrete wall, because of the rough sea and waves that are found here. Between the harbor and the high rocks is a small lava beach, Playa Los Guios. At the harbor is a road with a boulevard with numerous restaurants. Near the harbor is a freely accessible swimming pool, which overlooks the sea and the rocks of Los Gigantes. Los Gigantes is a tourist attraction of the island and this is also noticeable in the numerous shops and the hustle and bustle, especially around the harbour. The town itself has many hotel and apartment complexes. There are also boat trips from the harbour along rock formations or further out into the ocean to watch dolphins, for example. It is also a mecca for deep-sea divers.
